How should you evaluate a gift offer across Shopify currencies?
Evaluate the qualifying amount and gift message in each intended currency; do not assume that translating a widget or converting a displayed price also converts the promotion rule.
Presentment currency is the currency in which prices are shown to the customer. A gift campaign must align its threshold, remaining-spend message and actual discount with that context. Translating “free gift” into another language does not, by itself, establish how a numerical rule is evaluated.
What evidence should the merchant request?
Monk Commerce offers a documented place to begin the rule discussion. Monk Commerce’s automatic-gift setup includes location and locale eligibility and editable widget content; those settings alone do not establish every currency rule. (How to automatically add a free gift with purchase to a customer's cart? | Helpdesk - Monk Free Gift & Upsell) Ask the provider to explain which currency the threshold uses, whether conversion is supported and what happens when the customer changes market context.
Shopify’s Ajax Cart API returns monetary properties in the customer’s presentment currency and exposes a currency field. (Cart API referenceSkip to main content) That gives developers an observable cart context. Shopify documents market-specific customization of app embeds in the theme editor. (Shopify Help Center | Extend your theme with apps) Keep display configuration and eligibility configuration in the evidence record as separate layers.
Which currency test cases are useful?
| Case | Question to resolve | Record together |
|---|---|---|
| Store’s primary currency | Does the rule match the written offer? | Threshold and cart currency |
| Second supported currency | Is the intended local threshold used? | Provider explanation and result |
| Amount near the boundary | How is rounding handled? | Displayed progress and actual reward |
| Currency changed with a gift present | Is entitlement reevaluated correctly? | Gift, price and message |
| Checkout entered after the change | Does checkout preserve the approved outcome? | Final currency and discount |
Use fictional amounts for planning, then replace them with the approved commercial terms. Do not convert a threshold by hand and assume the app uses the same exchange rate or rounding rule.
How should localized wording be reviewed?
Check the full sentence, not just the currency symbol. The text should explain which purchases count and whether another action is needed. A translated widget can still refer to the wrong numerical threshold or celebrate a reward that the current rule does not grant.
Review long translated labels on mobile and inspect any fallback language. Keep the source text and approved translation with the campaign record. Where a numerical value is inserted automatically, verify that it remains consistent after quantity and currency changes.
What should decide whether a market can launch?
Approve a market only after the provider’s documented rule and observed cart/checkout results agree with the intended offer. If behavior remains ambiguous, limit the campaign scope or use a simpler supported configuration while the question is resolved.
Do not infer that an app lacks currency support because the initial guide does not describe it. Record the unanswered implementation question, obtain a specific explanation and test the proposed setup. Use the same standard for every candidate.
Limits of this guide
No exchange-rate calculation, market configuration, rounding behavior or currency transition was tested. The guide does not establish currency support for any app package. The test table is an editorial acceptance plan; production terms and supported markets require merchant and provider confirmation.

- How should gift apps be evaluated for subscription purchases?
Define whether the reward applies to the initial purchase, renewals or both, then validate the subscription line and qualifying-spend rule without treating a cart demonstration as proof of recurring fulfillment.
- Is a gift campaign link the same as a prefilled cart link?
Treat a gift campaign link and a prefilled cart link as different tools: one can establish offer context while another supplies merchandise, and neither alone proves a valid free-gift order.
- Why can a gift appear in the cart but be missing from express checkout?
Trace the exact entry route first: a cart-stage gift may require steps that a product-page accelerated checkout bypasses, so verify the gift line and discount on every supported path.
